Heavy-Duty Cantilever Gates (Omagh)
Project Location: Omagh, County Tyrone
This project involved the redevelopment of the entrance for Donnell & Ellis in Omagh. Because this client operates in the heavy engineering and haulage sector, they required a security solution capable of handling large machinery and constant traffic.
Therefore, we designed and installed a pair of industrial Cantilever Gates that provide maximum security without restricting access.
The Challenge: Heavy Traffic & Wide Access
Unlike residential driveways, a heavy haulage yard presents unique challenges. Specifically, the entrance needs to be wide enough for articulated lorries to turn safely. Furthermore, ground tracks are often a weak point because heavy trucks can crush them over time.
Consequently, a cantilever design was the only viable option. By suspending the gate above the ground, we eliminated the need for a track across the roadway. This means heavy vehicles can pass freely without damaging the gate mechanism.

For this project, we focused on two key technical requirements:
- 1. Structural Integrity: We manufactured the gates in sections at our workshop before assembling them on-site. This allowed us to transport them safely to Omagh while maintaining strict quality control.
- 2. High-Cycle Automation: Because the site is busy, the automation system needs to work hundreds of times a day. Therefore, we installed heavy-duty motors designed for “100% duty cycles.” Ultimately, this prevents overheating and ensures the site remains secure 24/7.
